Google Ads shows your ad to people searching for what you sell. Meta Ads show it to people on Facebook and Instagram who weren't searching but match who you want to reach. Search captures demand. Social creates it. Most decisions follow from that.
I've managed more than ₹20 crore in ad spend across both, and neither wins for everyone.
When Google Ads usually wins
Pick Google first when people actively search for your service. Emergency and repair services. Clinics and hospitals. Lawyers, CAs and other professionals. B2B suppliers whose buyers search by product. Anyone with clear search demand.
The leads are often warmer because the person asked for help. The catch is cost per click, which can be high in crowded categories like insurance, loans or property.
When Meta Ads usually win
Pick Meta when your product is visual, new or bought on impulse. Fashion, food, beauty, home decor, events and courses often do well. Real estate projects can work too, especially at launch.
On Meta the creative does most of the work. The image or the first seconds of a video decide who stops scrolling. A weak ad with perfect targeting still fails.
Lead quality
Meta's instant forms can bring in leads cheaply. Some of those people barely remember filling them in. If that happens, add a qualifying question or send people to a landing page. You'll get fewer leads, and more of them will answer the phone.
Google leads cost more per click but often convert better, because the intent is already there.
Using both
For many businesses the strongest setup is both. Meta builds awareness and retargets people who visited your site. Google catches them when they're ready to search. The search terms that convert on Google also give you ideas for Meta creative.
Start with whichever matches how your customers buy. Add the other once the first is working and tracked properly.
